A Love Letter to Davie: What Makes This Town Feel Like Home

Why This Place Matters

Davie is not a place you pass through. It is a place you settle into. Maybe it is the horse trails, or the way the sun hits the western sky just before dinner. Maybe it is the rodeo arena in the middle of town, still kicking up dust and tradition. Or maybe it is just that perfect mix of old and new — where cowboy hats and college campuses exist side by side, and no one thinks twice about it.

You don’t have to grow up in Davie to feel like a local. You just have to spend a little time here. Grab a coffee from a quiet corner café. Watch a high school baseball game. Catch live music at a bar where the floors still creak a little. The town has a way of pulling you in, even when you were just stopping by for a bite.

At Black Jack’s, we didn’t just open our doors here by accident. We chose Davie on purpose. We liked the pace. We liked the people. We liked that it was growing without forgetting who it was.

This is our thank-you note. Our valentine. Our raised glass to the town that lets us call it home.

The People Who Make It Special

You can tell a lot about a place by how strangers treat each other. In Davie, it is not uncommon to see someone hold a door a little longer. Or wave at you even if they do not know your name. Or strike up a conversation in line because your dog reminds them of theirs.

There is a realness here that is hard to describe but easy to feel. You see it in the teachers who have been in the classroom for twenty years. In the families who gather for every rodeo weekend without fail. In the business owners who still work the counter and know their customers by sight.

You see it at the farmers market behind Town Hall. At the high school football games. At the little strip mall shops where everyone remembers your order. These are not flashy places. They are steady. They are stitched into the rhythm of daily life.

And then there are the regulars. The ones who make Black Jack’s feel like part of something bigger. They pull up to the bar after work. They bring visiting family in on a Friday. They tip well and talk loud and always ask how the kitchen is doing. They are why we show up every day ready to go.

These are the people who make Davie more than just a dot on the map. They are the reason this town feels like a hometown, even if you just got here.

The Places That Ground Us

Every town has its landmarks. But in Davie, the places that matter most are the ones you return to without thinking. They are not tourist destinations. They are local fixtures. They are part of your week, part of your story.

Start with Davie Rodeo Arena. It is more than a place to watch barrel races and bull rides. It is a symbol. A reminder that this town still honors its roots. Families show up early. Kids eat kettle corn on the bleachers. Couples take selfies under the big lights. There is nothing else like it in South Florida.

Then there is Bergeron Park, tucked just off Orange Drive. Shaded by tall oaks and dotted with benches, it is where neighbors walk their dogs and take a minute to breathe. On any given morning you will find someone stretching in the grass or reading on a bench. It is not a destination. It is a rhythm.

Just across from Town Hall, the Davie Farmers Market turns a small parking lot into a full-sensory event every week. Local honey. Handmade soap. Empanadas hot from the griddle. It smells like food and flowers. It sounds like live music and easy conversation. It feels like the best parts of small town life.

Even places like Griffin Road feel different here. The stretch from Davie Road to 441 is lined with places that feel familiar — taco shops, barber shops, indie gyms, and ice cream counters. You may not know every business, but you know the feeling. The energy is local. You are not just passing through.

And of course, there is downtown. The crossroads where old-school Davie meets a new generation of students, young professionals, and longtime locals. It is where Black Jack’s calls home. Where you can walk from lunch to the hardware store to a community yoga class without losing that small town feeling.

These are the places that make Davie what it is. And they are why we are proud to plant our flag here.

How Davie Inspires What We Do

At Black Jack’s, we never set out to build a themed bar. We wanted to build something that felt like it belonged here. Something bold. Something different. But also something that made sense in a town like Davie.

You can see Davie in the food. Our prime rib Wednesdays are a nod to the kind of hearty meal people used to plan their week around. The fish and chips, the mojo pork, the grilled pineapple salad — they are all made from scratch, the way people here expect things to be.

You can see it in the drinks too. We did not build our cocktail menu around trends. We built it around story. Around craft. Around the idea that a good rum cocktail can do more than cool you down. It can take you somewhere. Maybe to the islands. Maybe just to a better mood after a long day.

Even the space itself reflects the town around us. We kept the materials raw. The walls honest. The light soft. Our outdoor deck looks out over the street, because we want to be part of the neighborhood, not hidden from it. You can walk in wearing boots or board shorts and still feel right at home.

Most of all, Davie reminds us to slow down. To care about the details. To know the names of the people who sit at the bar. That is how we run the place. That is how we design the menu. That is how we train our staff.

Because this town deserves more than just another restaurant. It deserves a place that reflects its pace and its pride. And that is exactly what we are trying to be.

A Thank You to Our Town

Every community has its story. Davie’s just happens to be one of our favorites.

We are grateful to be here. Grateful to serve the people who make this town what it is. Grateful to contribute something small to the rhythm of life on Davie Road. Whether it is a weeknight burger, a birthday brunch, or a drink after work, we do not take a single visit for granted.

To the teachers, the city workers, the students, the families, the small business owners — thank you. For showing up. For giving feedback. For cheering us on. For bringing your out-of-town cousins. For telling your neighbors about us. For being part of this thing we are building.

We opened Black Jack’s because we believed Davie deserved a place that felt a little different. But we stayed open — and keep getting better — because of the people who walk through our doors every day.

This is your town. This is your bar. And this is your love letter, from all of us behind the bar and in the kitchen, to the town we are lucky to call home.

If you have not been to Black Jack’s yet, come see why we love this town so much. Pull up a chair, grab a drink, and stay awhile. We will be here, holding down our little corner of Davie and keeping the good stuff coming.
